EVERYDAY EXCHANGE TRAVELS: 10 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

EVERYDAY EXCHANGE TRAVELS: 10 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

July 25, 2017

We have a special guest blogger today!  Her name is Cait and she runs things over at Cait's Cozy Corner.  She's going to talk about preparing for your next vacation (or trip, if you're going with kids.  Then it's definitely a trip).  Enjoy!

I love to travel! Planning a trip to a place you’ve never been before is so exciting! Think of all the memories and moments you'll be creating your friends and family! I’ve had my fair share of traveling the globe but nearly every time I prepare to go out of town for any reason, I get overwhelmed by a long list of things I need to get done before I leave. It doesn’t take me too long to pack but the night before I’m scrambling to put last minute things in my bag or remembering something important. Take it from me, it’s not a good way to start your trip.

I realized that regardless of leaving for several days or a few nights, I tend to do some of the same things to get ready to go. To help me ( and YOU ) get organized and plan for your future vacations, I thought why not put together a travel checklist of things to do before you leave on your grand adventure. Some things you can do a few days or a few weeks before as well as what to do the day or morning before you leave. Some of these items may not be necessary for you (like if you don’t have pets ) or if you have a short trip and are able to do fewer of these things, but it’s a great place to start. Ready? Let’s go!

1. Lists- Write your packing list- include everything you want to bring; clothes, accessories, personal care.. It’s a must for me!

2. Do laundry - Make sure you do this early so you have everything that you’re thinking about packing. Too many nights I’ve stayed up late to finish laundry and then i leave forgetting an item I wanted to pack!

3. Eat Up The Fridge- You don’t want any perishable food to go bad while you’re away so try to limit your purchases! I tend to cut up a bunch of fruit and vegetables a few days before to make sure to bring them to work and eat it before I leave!

4. Remember Items- Get your suitcase out and start to put items on top you want to remember to take! I actually leave a little note on top of my suitcase on items that I don’t want to forget because chances are the morning of, I tend to run around at times (especially if I wake up late!)

5. Pets-If you have pets make sure to plan their care with a neighbor or facility while you are gone. Remind them of when and how long you’ll be gone for so they can prepare.

6. Clean- This may sound silly to some but I hate coming home to a messy house when I’ve had a long flight so I pick up the house and wipe all the counters down. Thankfully I have counters from Hanwha Surfaces that are quartz.  Quartz is non-porous and requires no sealing, which means that your countertops will be easy to maintain and clean. When you purchase countertops from Hanwha Surfaces, you receive a residential lifetime limited warranty, or a commercial 10-year limited warranty, which is a huge perk and one that makes it worth it when keeping your kitchen in the best shape possible! It leaves for long trips worth it when you know the clutter and mess isn’t something you have to worry about when returning.

7. Travel arrangements- Be sure to call for your trip home to the airport who will pick you up or cal to reserve a taxi or uber. For your hotel make sure to call and find out the best way to get there from the airport and when you can check in if your flight is early.

8. Pack- Now pull everything together you want to pack and spread it all out on your bed so you can put looks together. I like to plan a few outfits that are fun but can also be layered and mix and match with other pieces depending on the weather and where I’m going.

9. Charge- Make sure to charge all your items and pack them- Too many times I’ve wanted to take a great picture and realized my camera wasn’t charged or my phone was about to die!

10. Breathe- This sounds silly but sometimes just packing and errands can leave you feeling extremely stressed before a big trip. Remind yourself to breathe and get excited about it! It’s a chance to explore, create memories and hopefully relax.
