EVERYDAY EXCHANGE TRAVELS: A LUXURY FARM RETREAT IN THE MOUNTAINS

A few weeks ago we were able to get away for a quick weekend alone before baby #2 makes her appearance. We drove up to the Blue Ridge mountains and stayed at Half-Mile Farm - the most perfect mountain inn with complete with that "rustic luxury" feel. As second time parents it's even more important than ever to get away and have some quality one on one time together. The idyllic setting of Half-Mile Farm was perfect to reconnect and just relax.
We drove up on a Friday and once we got settled we walked around the property and the main lodge area to explore. We were greeted in the lobby with a mimosa bar, a warm cookie bar and info regarding their 5 o' clock cocktails & hors d'oeuvres happy hour. Did I also mention they had a hot chocolate bar set up? And all this in a main dining hall centered around a gorgeous central fireplace. I mean...it was mountain perfection.

We spent a good majority of time in our room enjoying the view, the fireplace and the lack of responsibilities we had (parents--ya feel me?). We ventured out to downtown Highlands for dinner and ate at the cutest pub called the Ugly Dog Public House. The next morning we went down for the most delicious breakfast of berry tart (starter) and garden veggie quiche, ham steak & rosemary grits. Breakfast is included with your stay and there is no menu which I loved because you are just surprised with a few courses of whatever the chef decides to make that day.

Half-Mile Farm is a sister property of Old Edwards Inn so they are happy to arrange any reservations for dinner or spa treatments for you at the Old Edwards Inn. We made reservations at Old Edwards Inn for a spa day on Saturday followed by a nice dinner at Madison's on Saturday evening. The spa was slightly more crowded than I would've liked but it was beautiful nonetheless and we both enjoyed our time there because who wouldn't enjoy being pampered?? After we relaxed a little more back at the Inn we got ready for dinner and OMG it was delish! Would definitely recommend making reservations at Madison's if you are looking for a nice meal (and an excuse to dress up).

I can't recommend Half-Mile Farm enough. We can't wait to come back for another relaxing weekend!
