About six months after having my second baby I found myself in a rut. We've all been there. Doing all the things that we've been told to do in order to lose the fat and feel good. As a lifelong athlete who was raised by a professional athlete being "healthy" has always been a way of life for me. So when I hit that stall out six months post partum I went back to my old philosophy of “just clean up your act in the kitchen and workout if you want to see change." This philosophy told me I needed to do more. More time in the gym. More cutting of calories and less enjoying foods that I love (and I love food ya'll). The problem was that I didn't WANT to do that. And with an infant and a toddler I also didn't have the time to spend an additional 30 minutes to an hour on top of what I was already doing in the gym. Spare time was a commodity I did not have.
So, just as I thought I would have to cut out all the things I love (dinners out, wine, Mexican food, joy and happiness...), a friend asked me if I'd be interested in trying FASTer Way To Fat Loss. Now listen guys...I've never been a "program" person. And the name sounded silly. But at that point I was willing to try anything.
FASTer Way is a program that strategically combines macronutrient tracking, workouts, carb cycle and intermittent fasting. I will admit the word "fasting" scared me. Was I going to have to give up eating? How did this work? I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into but boy am I SO glad I did. Within the first 10 days my energy wasn't TANKING at 3pm every day and my clothes were fitting better.
Although there are several pieces to the program that all work together strategically, a huge pillar is the implementing of intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting has become somewhat of a buzz word these days but it really dates back centuries. In ancient Greece they used it for medicinal purposes. It biblical times they used it for religious purposes. Here's an important note: when you are intermittent fasting you are NOT eating less. You are essentially just eating within a specific time period and fasting the rest of the time. MOST of the time that you are fasting is actually when you are sleeping so it's really a lot easier to implement than you may think!
The benefits of intermittent fasting include: weight loss (yay!), protection against chronic disease, improved brain function, and increased longevity. Good Morning American actually JUST did a feature on breast cancer and said fasting for 13 hours daily has a 36% drop in recurrence. That's amazing isn't it? Just adjusting the time you eat can help prevent disease and increase your energy immensely. Some more amazing benefits are that it reduces insulin resistance and protects against type 2 diabetes (it is a sugar stabilizer), lowers bad cholesterol, and promotes cellular repair and autophagy (when your body consumes defective tissue in order to produce new parts).

One of the things I love about FASTer Way is that I don’t have to do anything extreme. I don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen prepping and I definitely don’t have to cut out any food groups or things I enjoy. Because ya girl can throw together a mean crock pot chili but I’m also an expert at making reservations and baking cookies 😉
FASTer Way slides right into my lifestyle. I do what works for MY family and have seen amazing results. No shakes, no wraps, no deprivation diet. Just good food fueling my body, more energy than I’ve had in a decade and the knowledge that having my favorite glass of wine from time to time will actually help me see more progress than restricting myself from the things I enjoy.
